Slaughter Processor - General Operator

In the process of slaughtering, a general operator processes the slaughtering of beef, sheep, goat, fish, pork and poultry to meet site compliance standards and targets. General operators prepare carcasses for cutting by cleaning and removing parts (organs, skin, feathers, bones, etc.). In some roles, this position may involve supervisory responsibilities including guiding, directing and supporting operators on the line. All employees on a meat production line play an important part in not just the yield of the plant, but the safety of both the employees and food products.

¿Qué responsabilidades tendré?

  • Have knowledge of animal anatomy and cuts of meat
  • Adhere to safety procedures and policies to slaughter animals
  • Prepare carcasses for cutting by cleaning and removing parts
  • Cut carcasses for further processing
  • Separate meat and by-products
  • Inspect meat products for defects and blemishes and remove them
  • Process prime parts into cuts that are ready for retail use
  • Pack final products into bags, cartons or other containers
  • Check products to ensure they meet USDA standards
  • Monitor machines and equipment and adjust if necessary
  • Maintain and clean machines used in the meat-preparing process
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities when required

Formación requerida:

A high school diploma is required for a slaughter processor — general operator career. Advanced training or an associate degree in meat science or agricultural business may be preferred to work for some companies.
