Occupational Health and Safety Specialist and Technician
Occupational health and safety specialists and technicians help keep workplaces and workers safe. They inspect work environments, identify hazards and investigate safety problems or accidents. Additionally, they recommend measures to prevent injuries and illnesses, enforce regulations and guide employees on proper procedures.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?
Inspect workplace environments to spot hazards that could affect worker health, safety or the environment
Enforce workplace safety regulations
Investigate accidents and recommend corrective actions
Develop and implement safety programs and policies
Provide guidance and education to workers and supervisors on safe work habits and injury prevention
Train employees on safety procedures and emergency response
Check tools, machinery and safety systems to ensure they meet legal and company standards
Test workplaces for environmental hazards, such as chemical exposure, noise or poor air quality
Maintain accurate records of inspections, training and incident reviews
Verify availability and proper use of personal protective equipment
Inspect fire suppression systems and emergency equipment for compliance
Recommend corrective measures based on hazard analysis results
Prepare or review specifications for safety equipment purchases
