Food Production Supervisor

Food production supervisors are responsible for the supervision and coordination of daily tasks in a food production facility. They ensure that food products are manufactured efficiently by coordinating and scheduling the activities of workers. These supervisors oversee entire manufacturing facilities and are responsible for the health and safety of workers.

What Responsibilities Will I Have?

  • Create schedules for and assign work activities to employees
  • Manage and coordinate a company-wide involvement in maintaining safety rules, conducting safety meetings, employee safety education trainings and improving safety awareness throughout the organization
  • Be responsible for minimizing manufacturing waste and maximizing productivity
  • Assist in hiring and training staff
  • Develop and maintain audit schedules to ensure all suppliers are evaluated to timescales according to designated risk status
  • Develop corrective, preventative and continuous quality-improvement action plans
  • Ensure the microbiological and analytical disposition of all raw materials and products harvested and packed in the plant
  • Lead and facilitate customer inspection of product and facilities
  • Troubleshoot quality and safety issues with growers
  • Review and check plant sanitation
  • Actively participate in all internal and external audits
  • Develop and maintain a successful staff through selection, training, leadership and motivation
  • Report daily and weekly product evaluations to management
  • Resolve workplace issues by recommending measures when production lines are done
  • Prepare and document all production to the plant manager

Education/Training Required:

A bachelor’s degree in food science, food engineering, business or industrial engineering is usually needed. Some may also have degrees in production planning, supply chain or food operations.
