Training and Development Manager

Training and development managers plan and direct skill- and knowledge-building programs for staff employed by agricultural organizations. They assess both organizational and employee needs to create and manage learning programs that achieve organizational objectives. This program management includes analysis and evaluation to measure employee performance and business success, ensuring program effectiveness.

What Responsibilities Will I Have?
Assess organizational training needs, leadership priorities and current programs
Assess employee skill and development wants and needs
Plan and direct learning programs, including the modification of existing programs and creation of new programs
Research and develop curriculum and training programs
Lead or present workshops and training sessions
Coach other HR staff, managers and supervisors to lead trainings
Manage the evaluation of instructor and program effectiveness, including overseeing surveys, assessments and progress reports
Direct new employee onboarding, including orientation and on-the-job training
Manage mentorship and professional development programs

Recommended High School Courses
The following high school courses are recommended: agricultural education, English, psychology, Spanish, communications, speech, mathematics, computer skills and business.

Education/Training Required
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, human resources, organizational management, adult education, curriculum design, agricultural education or a related field such as psychology is typically required. Employers prefer candidates with experience in staff development or similar roles.
