Regulatory Affairs Specialist
Regulatory affairs specialists help food companies ensure that their products meet all government and industry regulations. They review ingredients, packaging and nutrition information to confirm everything is accurate, safe and compliant with national and international standards. These specialists work closely with several departments within the company to provide regulatory guidance for new product development, ingredient review and labeling approvals.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?
Review and approve packaging, labels, marketing claims and artwork
Monitor and interpret food laws, standards and policies
Assist in preparing mandatory food nutrition labels for products sold globally
Advise teams on allowable nutrition claims, such as “high in fiber” or “low in sodium”
Guide product development and ingredient selection to meet regulatory requirements
Communicate with suppliers to verify ingredient specifications and documentation
Support food safety teams to maintain certifications and records
Prepare regulatory reports and maintain accurate documentation
Track and share regulatory updates with team members
Participate in audits and inspections to ensure compliance
Provide training or guidance on regulatory practices and updates
Stay updated on changing food laws, standards and policies

Education/Training Required
A bachelor’s degree in food science, nutrition, chemistry, biology or a related field is typically required.
