Field Service Representative/Technician
Field service representatives and technicians inspect, maintain and repair farm machinery such as tractors and combines. They travel to farms, dealerships and remote sites to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electronic systems. This role ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime during critical planting and harvest seasons.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?
- Perform diagnostics on farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors and harvesters
- Travel to farms, dealerships and remote sites for on-site service
- Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
- Perform routine maintenance on agricultural machinery and attachments
- Speak with clients to understand equipment issues and service needs
- Coordinate with parts suppliers and service managers for repairs
- Fabricate metal parts using drill presses, lathes and other tools
- Calibrate and adjust equipment for optimal performance
- Consult operating manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
- Replace worn or damaged parts using proper tools and techniques
- Test repaired systems and verify operational safety
- Document service activities and maintain accurate records
- Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
- Provide emergency repairs during peak seasons

Education/Training Required
A high school diploma is required. Some employers prefer completion of a formal technical training program in diesel engines, mechanics, agricultural equipment, agricultural engineering or technology. Additional manufacturer training and certifications are common for specialized equipment.
