Fisheries Technician
Fisheries technicians oversee and assist in the daily work completed at a fishery. They ensure fish are healthy, properly housed and fed and are responsible for general maintenance around the facility. Additionally, they assist biologists and technicians in various natural resource management practices or research activities.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?
- Assist biologists and technicians in various natural resource management practices and research
- Assist in habitat enhancement and management
- Operate high-pressure spray pumps, outboard motors, air boats and other equipment
- Provide technical support and assistance to personnel engaged in fish production and freshwater mussel propagation at a disease-free hatchery
- Work with nutritionists to develop feeding rations and schedules needed for specified growth rates for a variety of aquatic species
- Collect fish broodstock (sexually mature adult fish) to complete breeding requirements
- Arrange fish based on species or other requirements to maintain an organized facility
- Clean aquaculture equipment and tanks
- Maintain records in accordance with industry standards and company policies

Education/Training Required:
An associate degree in aquaculture, biology, chemistry, natural resource management or agriculture is usually needed.
