Project Manager
A project manager in the agriculture and food industry oversees complex projects with a defined time or budget. They pay close attention to timeline management, risk mitigation, metrics and deliverables. They are responsible for planning and executing projects from concept through to completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives, budgets, deadlines, quality and safety standards. Project managers in the agriculture sector work to improve production efficiency, install or upgrade equipment and processes and support strategic initiatives that drive growth and sustainability. This role involves cross-functional collaboration and communication with key stakeholders, managing expectations, performance, reporting and customer satisfaction.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?
Define project plan, including scope, goals, cost estimates, timelines and reports for capital, engineering and other complex projects
Manage overall project progress to deliverables
Select, evaluate and manage contractors, vendors and equipment suppliers
Oversee activities and ensure adherence to quality and safety protocols
Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams using appropriate tools and methodologies
Monitor budgets, manage risk and ensure projects meet organizational goals
Ensure documentation and management of project files, finances, forecasting and reporting
Provide startup support, troubleshoot issues and optimize operational performance
Communicate progress to stakeholders and ensure project alignment with strategic objectives
Recommended High School Courses
The following high school courses are recommended: engineering or industrial technology, mathematics (including statistics), computer science, business or project management fundamentals, agricultural education, communications and English.
Education/Training Required
A bachelor’s degree in business, project management, engineering (or a related technical field) is needed. Industry certifications such as PMP, PMI, CAPM, Agile or Prince2 are highly recommended. Experience with engineering design tools, project scheduling software and management tools (Asana, Jira, MS Project) and safety compliance systems is also needed.
