Asesor de cultivos

A crop advisor’s main role is to provide knowledge, advice and assistance in the management of crop growth. Crop advisors maintain a close relationship with their clients and scout their fields for problems that may arise during the growing season. They make recommendations on things ranging from seed to fertilizer and from pest management to disease treatment. Additionally, they keep agronomic and financial records of customer accounts.

¿Qué responsabilidades tendré?

  • Scout crops for pests and diseases that may arise during various parts of the growing season
  • Build relationships with growers and maintain high levels of customer service
  • Collaborate with other advisors in order to understand disease and pest outbreaks in the area
  • Keep agronomic and financial records of customer accounts
  • Work with the marketing manager to develop marketing plans and pricing strategies
  • Make recommendations to growers on actions that may need to be taken when problems arise
  • Provide training to area growers
  • Be responsible for seed, fertilize and chemical recommendations after potential problems have been identified
  • Utilize knowledge and understanding of weeds and herbicide modes of action to determine best suitable treatment
  • Suggest crops and seeds to be used in the next growing season
  • Supervise chemical and fertilizer applications
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards and new developments specific to your position
  • Keep required certifications (if any) updated through continued education

Formación requerida:

A bachelor’s degree in agronomy, soils, plant science or crop science is needed. Depending on the company’s or state’s policies, a license or certification as a certified crop advisor may be required.
