Editor
An editor is responsible for reviewing, editing and preparing content for publication. They work closely with writers and creators to understand the content and preserve the writer’s voice or style while providing guidance and constructive feedback to support story success. Editors check grammatical errors, readability and accuracy with attention to detail. They revise copy to meet style guidelines and editorial standards. An editor also coordinates with various departments to ensure deadlines are met and approves final versions before publication.

- Review content for punctuation, spelling and grammar
- Revise content to meet stylistic and publication guidelines
- Ensure high quality and integrity while upholding ethical standards
- Verify facts and citations in content
- Collaborate with writers and content creators to understand their style, goals and direction for the piece
- Provide feedback to make improvements
- Rewrite content for readability
- Style manual/guide knowledge, such as AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, APA, MLA Handbook, etc.
- Editorial operations, including choosing content appropriate for the target audience, scheduling and meeting deadlines
- Coordinate space for graphics and photos to add to the content
- Prepare written or visual content for publication
- Provide final approval before publishing

Education/Training Required
Editors usually need a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications, agricultural journalism, English, communications, journalism or related field. Experience editing or writing with high school or college newspapers, publications and other media is beneficial.
