Wind Substation Technician

Wind substation technicians perform installation, maintenance and testing of wind energy collection sites (substations) where the power from wind turbines is gathered. They perform inspections of wind turbines and equipment associated with wind energy and document work performed. Additionally, they act promptly in reporting to the site manager any facility or equipment deficiencies in case of damages or emergency situations.

Education/Training Required:

An associate or bachelor’s degree in wind or electrical technology is preferred as well as experience in voltage testing of electrical power equipment. If you are in an area with a large wind turbine presence, you may be able to receive training specific to wind energy systems, which is another option to becoming a wind substation technician.
