Accounting Clerk

Accounting clerks play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth financial operations for a business or organization. They process invoices, reconcile bank accounts, manage accounts payable and receivable and assist in preparing financial reports. In the agriculture and agribusiness sectors, accounting clerks often support farm operations, dealerships or processing facilities by managing equipment sales transactions, supplier payments and customer billing. This position requires attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to work with financial data and software systems.

What Responsibilities Will I Have?
Process and record accounts payable and receivable transactions
Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
Enter and match supplier invoices and resolve discrepancies
Prepare and process payment batches, checks and wire transfers
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and fixed assets
Assist with month-end and year-end reporting
Communicate with vendors and internal departments to resolve billing or payment issues
Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis activities

The following high school courses are recommended: accounting, business education, computer applications, economics, mathematics, English a communications.

Education/Training Required
A bachelor’s degree in an accounting or business-related field is needed. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage or ERP systems) and Microsoft is valuable.
