Landscape Designer

Landscape designers prepare blueprints, coordinate contracts with customers, propose plans and oversee the development of landscapes, typically for companies or groups that provide landscaping design and maintenance services for companies or individuals. They create garden design blueprints using perennials, annual color, edibles, containers and outdoor furniture.

What Responsibilities Will I Have?

  • Create garden design blueprints on paper and in the field
  • Analyze natural and man-made elements of the area to influence blueprint development
  • Utilize geospatial technology (tools used to collect time-based data that is related to a specific location on the Earth’s surface) to analyze landscaping plans
  • Manage installation crews
  • Meet with clients and manage client accounts
  • Negotiate and coordinate contracts with clients and vendors
  • Develop and execute budgets and plans
  • Communicate with companies to source a variety of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, etc.

  • focus on science, particularly biology, plant science, botany, earth science and geography

Education/Training Required:

An associate or bachelor’s degree in landscape design, landscape architecture, horticulture, turf grass management, plant science, biology or a related field is required.
