Environmental engineering technologists and technicians assist environmental engineers by implementing plans that protect natural resources and reduce pollution. Their work includes monitoring soil, water and air quality; operating lab equipment; analyzing samples; and supporting environmental engineers with administrative tasks, such as preparing reports.

- Collect soil, water and air samples for testing
- Operate and maintain environmental monitoring equipment
- Record and analyze data from field and lab tests
- Prepare graphs, charts and reports from environmental data
- Assist in designing systems for waste treatment and water reuse
- Inspect agricultural sites for compliance with regulations
- Support remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater at project sites
- Source and order materials and equipment for projects
- Calibrate instruments for accurate environmental measurements
- Maintain detailed logs of sampling activities and results
- Communicate findings to lead environmental engineers and project managers
- Arrange for the disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals
- Monitor runoff and erosion control systems on farms
