Pequeños rumiantes

Small ruminant farm workers are responsible for the daily care and maintenance of sheep that are used for meat or wool production or goats that are used for meat or dairy production. Additionally, they assist in breeding programs, shear sheep yearly, assist in milking operations for dairy goats, clean the milking parlor after each milking and ensure milk quality is not compromised by following standards.

¿Qué responsabilidades tendré?

  • Prepare, mix, measure and distribute daily feed rations and ensure animals have access to food and water
  • Identify sick sheep or goats and determine proper treatment and when to contact a veterinarian
  • Administer vaccinations and medications as directed by a veterinary medical professional
  • Assist in breeding programs including artificial inseminations and synchronization
  • Assist in the care of lambs and kids including bottle feeding when rejected, tagging and tail docking when of age
  • Shear sheep at least yearly or hire a sheep shearer to do so
  • Perform and assist in milking operations for dairy goats
  • Clean the milking parlor after each milking and ensure milk quality is not compromised by following standards
  • Maintain high standards of animal welfare at all times
  • Assist and monitor the transportation of animals to markets or other locations
  • Maintain and assist in the development and cleanliness of the farm including fences and barns

Formación requerida:
