A falconer uses birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, falcons or owls to analyze and control behavioral patterns in pest bird species such as pigeons, gulls, starlings and sparrows. Falconers also trap, euthanize, exterminate or relocate pest animals and wildlife affecting agricultural production.

¿Qué responsabilidades tendré?
- Care for and house falcons and/or other birds of prey
- Transport birds safely and humanely
- Hunt wild quarry and pest birds with a trained bird of prey
- Train birds of prey using knowledge of animal behavior
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of animal behavior and industry discoveries
- Discuss client needs and assist in developing proper mode of action using birds of prey
- Conduct animal control seminars to encourage education about birds of prey
- Achieve and maintain proper licensing to use falcons as a means for abatement, trapping and exterminating pests
- Have a knowledge of proper bird handling techniques and complete training as needed
- Select the appropriate bird of prey to eliminate pests using a knowledge of avian behavior

Formación requerida:
A high school diploma is required and an associate or higher degree in wildlife management, natural resource management, environmental sciences or poultry science may be preferred along with various certifications and licensing for handling birds of prey. Depending on the geological area, hunting licenses may also be required.
