Plan and conduct studies on living organisms and their environments
Conduct research in both laboratory and field settings
Perform detailed examinations of samples using microscopy and other analytical technologies
Collect and analyze data using scientific and statistical methods
Develop theories and models to explain biological processes
Conduct experiments on growth, heredity and breeding of plants or animals
Study, identify and classify plant and animal specimens
Perform field studies when necessary, working outdoors to collect samples and observe organisms in their natural habitats
Prepare scientific reports, presentations and publications to communicate findings
Make detailed observations and maintain accurate notes during experimentation
Prepare proposals to secure research funding and resources
Present research findings at conferences through posters and presentations
Stay current with the latest research and published papers in the field
Ensure laboratory safety and proper handling of biological materials

Education/Training Required
A bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics or a related life sciences field is required for entry-level roles. Advanced research or specialized positions typically require a master’s or doctoral degree.
