Maintenance / Service Technician
A maintenance/service technician performs basic diagnosis and repairs on gasoline engines, diesel engines, transmissions, and various agricultural implements and lawn and garden equipment. Their duties require them to operate drill presses, grinders, engine lathes, or other machines to modify parts tested or to fabricate experimental parts for testing.
What Responsibilities Will I Have?:
- Perform assembly, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment
- Read and interpret technical manuals
- Perform preventative maintenance
- Weld, fabricate metal and assemble electrical units
- Travel to work on equipment in the field
- Schedule repair appointments with clients
- Use computers to investigate and repair mechanical equipment
- Reassemble machines and equipment
- Operate drill presses, grinders or engine lathes to modify parts tested
- Fabricate experimental parts for testing
- Maintain condition of vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment
Recommended High School Courses:
The following high school courses are recommended: agricultural education, a focus on science and mathematics.
Education/Training Required:
A high school diploma or more preferably an associate degree in industrial equipment technologies, mechanics, heavy equipment and transport technology is required.
